ADVANCED SKILLS CENTER (958)

Twelfth grade students interested in the Wm. F. Goodling Advanced Skills Center High School Internship Training Programs may elect this half-day program. The student must be academically eligible, have a history of successful school attendance, pass a urinalysis drug screening, and be on target to graduate with their class.  Students are responsible for their own transportation each day.  This is a competitive program; students are required to submit an application and attend an interview and orientation program.  Students will be required to take English, Physical Education, and two other full year courses or the equivalent at York Suburban High School to be released for the program.  See the Career Opportunities Coordinator or your Guidance Counselor for more information.

 

 

PROGRAMS OFFERED

 

Automation and Robotics Center of Excellence/Repair Technologies: This will start with focuses on electrical/electronic maintenance combined with robotic technology.  This will start with electrical schematics, Sensors, Programmable Logic Controllers – PLC’s, Troubleshooting, and Robotic programming and maintenance. This course is comprised of theory and practical application in the areas of: electrical tools, instrument safety, electrical symbols/line diagrams, magnetism/magnetic solenoids, programmable controllers, AC/DC contractors/motor starters, soldering/insulating techniques, electro mechanical/solid state relays and preventative maintenance/troubleshooting.

 

Automotive Technology: This full year course will offer 600 hours of NATEF nationally certified training taught by a HACC instructor.

The areas covered are Brakes, Electrical/ Electronic Systems, Engine Performance and Suspension and Steering. Other areas may be added. 

Nine college credits can be earned.

 

Welding Technologies: This welding course will encompass industry developed welding, preparation and fabrication skills.  The areas covered are: oxy-acetylene torch operation, air carbon arc gouging, SMAW (stick) and GMAW (MIG).

 

Machining Technology: The machining course will allow the student to acquire basic skills and related technical information for the metal working industry in the areas of: print reading, shop math, measuring skills, tool layout, set up, operation-machine tool theory and practice.  Many jobs are available in the discipline. 

 

Auto CAD:  The computer assisted design course will encompass multiple levels of these applications: Auto CAD levels I, II, III; Mechanical Desktop levels I, II, III; Espirit levels I, II, III and Autodesk Inventor levels I, II, III.  Animation will also be introduced.

 

Allied Health: This one semester course will offer an enhanced version of HACC’s Allied Health 140 class curriculum.  A course designed to provide a healthcare orientation to students using lectures, labs, and job shadowing experiences.  Students successfully completing the course will be awarded 4 college credits as well as 1, 2, or 3 high school credits.  Some of the disciplines reviewed during the course will be: Cardiology, Radiology, Respiratory, Dietician, Special Labs, General Nursing, Physical Therapy, Patient Registration, ER, Physician’s Office, Pharmacology, EMT, Social Services, Surgery, and Billing and Coding.  Minimal eligibility requirements: Student must be passing all major subjects and have a 2.0 GPA. (Program time varies from 12:30 to 2:00.)

 

Healthcare 2: This second semester program includes Law & Ethics, Biology/Medical Terms, Anatomy & Physiology and Gerontology.  The student will be awarded 4 HACC credits for completing this program successfully as well as their high school credits.  See Allied Health for program times.

 

Nursing Assistant: Upon successful completion of this state approved, one semester program (classroom and clinical experience), and passing the Pennsylvania competency test, the student will be eligible to work in the long-term health care industry within the Commonwealth.  Minimal eligibility requirements: Student must be passing all major subjects and have a 2.0 GPA.  (Program time is 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. daily.)

 

Geospatial Information Systems: The GIS program curriculum includes the utilization of data, imagery and software used by NASA to find ways to apply digital mapping and image analysis to the community.  This relates to GPS.
