Indian Rock Elementary School is located at 1500 Indian Rock Dam Road, York, PA, 17403. The school is located on the western boundary of the York Suburban School District. It opened in 1973 for students in kindergarten through grade 6. The enrollment when the school was established was 338 students and 17 classroom teachers.
Currently, Indian Rock Elementary School has students in grades 3-5 with a staff of 15 classroom teachers. Student enrollment is 350 students. Academic support services are offered in reading, learning support, gifted support, math and speech. A computer lab is accessible for all classes, as well as a bank of wireless laptop computer carts that are networked in every classroom and pod. Students have access to files and Internet at both locations.
The student day begins at 8:45 a.m. and concludes at 3:30 p.m. All students participate in related arts classes of art, music, library, physical education and health. The schedule operates on a six-day cycle which provides block planning periods for the teachers. Fourth grade students have the opportunity to take instrumental music lessons during the day. Fifth grade students may participate in string ensemble, band and chorus. Additionally, fifth grade students, with parent advisors, write our school newsletter.
Teachers are active participants on building and district committees that support a variety of school purposes. These include: Book Parade, Student Needs Team, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Professional Growth, Multi-Cultural Committee, Incident Command Team and Strategic Plan as well as School-Wide Effective Behavior Support (SWEBS).
Parents are always actively involved at Indian Rock Elementary School. The Parent Teacher Organization sponsors many different committees on which parents can participate. These include School Spirit, Classroom Parents, Art Goes to School, Fall Festival, Holiday Breakfast, Multi-Cultural Day, Holiday Shoppe, Senior Guest Day, Library Parents, Rain/Shine Recess, and Writer's Conference.
All members of our school family participate in achieving our school goals which are drawn from the York Suburban Mission Statement, Vision and Guiding Beliefs. Each year our goals for the school year contain both new and continuing issues for our focus that enhances student success and growth in all aspects of their school life.
