School Safety Concerns – September 19, 2024

Good morning York Suburban Families and Staff,

Again this week, generalized social media posts regarding a threat to school safety are being circulated. The posts claim an act of violence is going to take place at an unidentified school. Understandably, these continued posts are causing fear in our community. I want to reassure you that no threats have been made against York Suburban schools.

Even though our schools have not been targeted, we continue to take all possible threats to the safety of our students and staff seriously. Thank you to those who have reported social media posts and rumors to school staff and through the Safe2Say Something Hotline so they can be thoroughly investigated. As a reminder, anyone can make an anonymous report through Safe2Say at 1-844-723-2729 or www.safe2saypa.org.

In addition to reporting concerns, we encourage families to continue monitoring their children’s social media activity and having conversations about the impact of spreading rumors of this nature.

Lastly, if your student needs additional support after seeing or hearing rumors about these threats, please notify your building principal. We have staff available who can talk one-on-one with your student and provide them with tools for dealing with anxiety they may be experienceing.

Thank you for your continued partnership in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for our students and staff.

Sincerely,

Scott T. Krauser, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
