Volunteer Information

Thank you for your interest in being a York Suburban School District volunteer! As a school district, we greatly appreciate your willingness to give your time and energy to help our students and staff.

NEW VOLUNTEERS: Submitting Your Application

To apply, follow the steps in the Volunteer Application Packet linked below and email the completed paperwork to volunteer@yssd.org or drop it off at the District Office (1800 Hollywood Road) during business hours (M-F 8 a.m.-4 p.m.). It is important to note that the School Board approves all volunteers. Individuals cannot volunteer until they receive approval to do so during a scheduled Board meeting.

Once approved, you will be added to our volunteer list and can volunteer at all buildings and events within the District. Renewal or reapproval from year to year is not necessary; you will remain an active volunteer with YSSD until you decide to withdraw or your background clearances expire. All clearances are considered expired after five years.

ALL completed volunteer paperwork must be submitted no later than the Wednesday before the Board meeting to be added to that meeting's agenda.

Contact volunteer@yssd.org or call 717-885-1210 with any questions.

RETURNING VOLUNTEERS: Renewing Volunteer Clearances

If you are already Board approved and need to renew your volunteer clearances, please follow the instructions linked below.

ALL completed volunteer paperwork must be submitted no later than the Wednesday before the Board meeting to be added to that meeting's agenda.

Contact volunteer@yssd.org or call 717-885-1210 with any questions

Photos and Student Privacy

Volunteers to our schools and at school-related events (including class parties and field trips) are welcome to take photos of their own child(ren) for their personal use. However, volunteers and visitors are asked to respect the privacy and confidentiality of other families. At school and school events (including field trips), students have an expectation of privacy. This is governed by the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Volunteers should not take photographs or videos that identify someone else’s child or their work and share them on social media websites.

Please Note: After-school sporting events, concerts, and high school graduation ceremonies are considered public events, and photographs are allowed.
