Summer Assistance Programs Available to Food-Insecure Families

May 18, 2022

Dear York Suburban Families,

This letter is to provide families with information about food assistance programs that will be available over the summer. Listed below are several local options that may be helpful.

York Suburban Education Foundation Impact Foundation
Families in need of assistance may utilize the services offered by York Suburban Education Foundation’s student-led Impact Foundation (YSEF IF). This organization will continue to operate out of the Luther Memorial Church every other Thursday during the summer. The YSEF IF’s Pantry and Closet program offers fresh produce*, shelf-stable food, toiletries, and household products. More information about YSEF IF’s summer services can be found at this link.

*While YSEF IF’s resources are reserved for families in need, fresh produce is an exception. All York Suburban families may pick up fresh produce during regular distribution times.

Catholic Harvest Food Pantry
Those needing assistance with food should call 717-846-8571, option 1, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on weekdays to schedule an evening food distribution. Messages left after hours will be returned the next business day. More information is available at this link.

Chrystal's Place
The Northeast Neighborhood Association operates Chrystal’s Place, which provides free food, clothing, diapers, and household items to anyone in need. Visitors do not need an appointment, but they are required to bring photo ID and supply some household information. Call 717-845-5641 or visit this link for more information.

FoodFinder
FoodFinder collects information about food pantries and helps users locate those in their area. Visit https://foodfinder.us/ and enter your zip code to find out which resources are nearby.

York Benevolent Association
This organization distributes food on select Tuesdays each month. Recipients must pre-register and show two forms of ID at the time of pick up. Call 717-854-2494 or visit this link for details.

York County Food Bank
The York County Food Bank currently distributes food weekly at two different locations through its Hunger Free York program. Anyone in need is welcome to visit and receive free food. More information about the locations, dates, and times is available at this link.

We hope these programs will be of great assistance to families in need. Please share this letter with anyone who may benefit. Thank you for your time, and have a great summer break!

Sincerely,
Kathy Ciaciulli, PCSBA, M.Ed.
