I am once again asking you to please approve the hiring of an additional teacher for Indian Rock. We have fabulous teachers, but it is unfair to expect that they can continue to help provide quality education to their classes when the class sizes are between 28-30. We cannot continue to cut the budget and make it up at the cost of our student’s education. This year Indian Rock lost two teacher positions a 3rd-grade and a 4th-grade teacher. At the start of the school year, class sizes were already at the upper end of the board’s guidelines. It has now taken 3 months for the board to approve hiring this new position, but when will the new position be filled? When our students and staff receive the benefit of this additional class? While hiring one additional teacher will help to lighten the load, what is the board going to do to fix the large class sizes in the other grade? What is the board’s plan for next year? Will the board make sure that the class sizes at Indian Rock at other schools are at guidelines or will we all need to request an additional teacher to split up the classes halfway through the year? Please stop balancing the budget at the cost of the education of our students.
