Visiting Colleges & Universities

When possible, students are encouraged to schedule college visits outside the regular school day. However, each junior and senior student is permitted three college visitations per academic year.  Visits during school time should include a visit with an admissions counselor, an official tour, or other activity that can be officially documented by an employee of the school.  

If an appointment with a college official must be scheduled on school time, the following procedures must be followed or the absence will be considered unexcused: 

1. A Pre-Planned College Visit Form (New online form for 2023-24)must be completed prior to the visit for pre-approval. 
2. Students must contact their classroom teachers in advance of the trip to identify work that must be completed prior to their return. 
3. Upon returning to school, the student must submit proof of attendance.

Financial Aid 101 Video

Military recruiters representing all branches of the armed services are scheduled to speak with students during lunches in the cafeteria 4 times a year (10/11, 12/13, 2/14, and 4/10).  Other presentations, based on student interest, are also arranged throughout the year.

York Suburban School District has contracted with PCBH Counseling Services to provide counseling for any student.  If you are interested in learning more about their services, please contact our office.

Scholastic Apptitude Test ("SAT") and SAT Subject Tests

The SAT Reasoning Test (formerly the SAT Test) is a standardized test for college admissions in the United States.

To register for the SAT test, register on-line at CollegeBoard Registration; or if internet access is not available, stop by the Guidance Office to log in on one of our computers.

ACT Test

The ACT^® test assesses high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work.

• The multiple-choice tests cover four skill areas: english, mathematics, reading, and science.
• The Writing Test, which is optional, measures skill in planning and writing a short essay.

Preparation for Standardized Tests

The York Suburan High School's Guidance Office offers the following standardized testing preparation:

1.     College Board preparation test booklets (for the SAT and SAT subject tests and for the ACT);

2.     Books that can be borrowed are also found in our guidance suite that offer preparation for the standardized tests, including subject tests; and

3.     Information on SAT preparation classes at York College and Penn State York can be found on their websites.
