Middle School Library Media Center

Information Literacy for the 21st Century Learner

The library media program in the York Suburban Middle School is designed to ensure that all patrons are effective users of ideas and information enabling them to be literate life-long learners. The program is supported with funding provided by the school district. The mission is accomplished by the librarian and the library staff in collaboration with the school community:

  • By providing instruction to foster competence in acquiring and using information and ideas, and in evaluating information resources
  • By stimulating interest in reading and appreciation of literature through group instruction and individual guidance
  • By providing intellectual and physical access to materials in multiple formats
  • By fostering good citizenship in the use and care of library materials and facilities
  • By working with faculty and staff to integrate library skills within the subject areas;and
  • By working with faculty and staff to design and carry out learning experiences to meet the needs of individual students
